[WTS] Glashütte Original OG "Sixties" - Rare Rose Gold Case, Sunburst Dial, Caliber 69(nice), Stunning Condition
Hello, I’ve inherited a collection of watches and am now looking to sell some of them. These pieces are from the GDR times of Glashütte behind the iron curtain and are the inspiration for many of the modern GO watches. They do come with a rich independent history at a much smaller price point. I only offer watches that are running. However, I always recommend having the watch serviced before regular use. I do not check for accuracy before I list watches here. If desired, I can arrange a service upon upfront payment. Please refer to the pictures and ask for more if needed. This is an exceptional opportunity to own the original watch that inspired the modern Glashütte Original “Sixties” reissue that today retails for nearly €10,000. What I’m offering here, however, is not a contemporary reinterpretation, but the genuine East German original from behind the Iron Curtain: a true vintage classic with far more history. Produced in the early 1960s by the state-run Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe, this automatic wristwatch represents the foundation for what would later become one of Glashütte Original’s most iconic modern collections. While many pursue the re-edition, very few are aware that this watch, the actual design source, still exists in its authentic, non-SWATCH, form. And fewer still are preserved in such outstanding condition. What makes this example especially rare is its rose gold-plated case. The standard finish was yellow gold tone; the rosé hue appears to have resulted from a plating batch anomaly, making it highly unusual and likely, unintended - that is my observation and thoughts on this, as theres no documentation. A fact is that very few of these cases are known to exist, and virtually none survive at this level of preservation. These dials were notoriously prone to oxidation over the decades, often resulting in heavy corrosion. This one, however, remains in remarkably good condition for its age. Yes, there are traces of oxidation, as is completely typical for these pieces, but this example is among the best I’ve seen. The watch features a reliable automatic movement from the GUB era, and the case, glass, and dial are all in beautiful shape. This is, of course, a vintage timepiece, now over 65 years old and should be appreciated as such. It is not a new watch and not cosmetically flawless, but for a collector seeking authenticity, originality, and historical relevance, it is a rare find. This is a chance to own a piece of true horological history — an authentic GDR-era Glashütte that stands not only as a collectible, but also as the very blueprint for one of today’s mechanical watches.
