Speedmaster Professional MKII Racing Dial Mod, Serviced
Speedmaster Professional MKII Racing Dial Mod, Serviced
Hi OF
I have an itch to add another watch to the collection so one has gotta go.
What we have here is an Omega Speedmaster Mark II with the rarer racing dial/hands, recased into a Professional style case. Fun watch for daily wear and a great conversation starter with other watch-nerds.
This is a rat-rod speedy. You take parts that may not work for a pristine collector-grade watch and repurpose into something fun.
Midcase has seen a polish, tops of the lugs look good and sharp and it looks great on the wrist. Polish seen most notably on one lug but it still has good definition. Caseback is a service caseback in the pre-moon style to make it look “correct” to the real Pro grey racing.
Dial is good looking but not perfect. (You don’t sacrifice a perfect MKII for a mod). Good looking lume with a mark or two on the dial surface, including a tiny scratch on the hour subdial, and one speck of melted gasket goo between 4:00-5:00 that I didn’t risk removing. I don’t notice the defects on the wrist but I’ll make sure they are highlighted in the photos.
The hands are the much rarer thin racing with black center, the same type used on the ultra rare pro grey racing dial, not the more standard thick MKII hands. Took a while to find a MKII with these hands.
This was assembled and movement was serviced by a watchmaker with full omega parts account, receipt will be included. Movement service was done in 2023 so should be good to go for a few more years. Another fun note; the movement serial number is close to the real grey dial pro racing movement serial number range. MWO says 11 of 15 known are in the 29.60x.xxx range, this one is 29.63x.xxx
And yes, also included are all the parts to reassemble the MKII to its original state if ever desired. This is a case swap and can be undone easily, no MKII was sacrificed to make this project. The MKII case has a lot of wear, again why it was used for this project, but is complete with good crystal (replaced during the case conversion/movement service with new OEM), original pushers and crown, movement holder, screws, everything to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
An 1171/1 bracelet with 633 endlinks completes the package. (I don’t have the MKII bracelet, I bought it head-only)
You can put one together yourself, and may save a few bucks. But honestly when you include a full service and the time that takes, plus sourcing all the parts, this is a pretty reasonable price for ready-to-wear IMO
Ask any questions you have, ask for more pictures as needed to make sure you are confident you will like this. No returns unless misdescribed, they are a PITA for us non-dealers so please ask questions if you have them.
