IWC Cal 89, 18k Rose Gold, 37mm, from 1956
IWC Cal 89, 18k Rose Gold, 37mm, from 1956
Up for sale is a gorgeous IWC cal 89 from approx 1956. It's in lovely condition (pristine dial!), though of course--as one expects for 70-year-old piece--it's not utterly flawless with some swirls on the case, for example. But absolutely ready for daily wear.
Case diameter is right around 37mm, so very modern proportions for a vintage watch!
18k rose gold---the depth of color on these IWCs is pretty legendary.
18mm lug-width. I have it mounted to a brown aftermarket strap with a rose-gold-toned stainless buckle. Including those in the sale.
The watch keeps very serviceable time--gaining something near 30 seconds a day. (See the timegrapher pic.)
On a full wind, I've gotten more than 40 hours of power reserve, which is nice!
The caseback and movement serials both agree on an approximate production date of 1956.
Continental US sales only, I'm afraid---the watch is in Maryland. I will cover the cost of US shipping. I'm an individual, not a watch dealer, so all sales are final, please.
Only purchased this last spring (from a forum-member), but just haven't had occasion to wear it as much as I thought I would. Willing to take a slight loss in order to find it a better home and free up some cash. Not interested in any trade offers.
Asking $2500 USD, shipped. I believe that's pretty competitively priced..?
Note that what you'll see here are a combination of my own pics and some from the seller I purchased from (including the timegrapher shot); his photo skills exceed my own. PLENTY of additional photos readily available on request, and I'm happy to provide special-requests as well. That said, I'm loath to remove the caseback again, as easy as it is to do so, for obvious protective reasons. No idea about service history, but all looks and functions as it should, and these movements are known for being cheap and easy to service, in any case, should any issue arise. (It's not like a modern Omega where you have to drop $600 and wait half a year.)
An interesting note: this watch has the expected hallmark near the lug (you can see it in at least one of the photos), but also an unusual one, presumably from the casemaker, on the caseback. (It may look like a little scratch or dent in the photo---it's a hallmark.) This mark occasioned much (largely inconclusive) research prior to my own purchase, and I consulted with the local IWC experts here on the forum, too. It all passed muster, and I can forward along that thread to any potential buyer who's interested. I don't believe this adds monetary value to the watch, but it does perhaps add some curiosity and interest.
I will very likely also list this watch (at a slightly higher price) on eBay in the next few days, assuming it doesn't sell here before then. Would always much rather sell here.
Thanks for looking, and thanks OF for the space! I have some feedback here, and much much more on eBay upon request. Longtime, well-established OFer---you can purchase with confidence.
