**Today I bring to youan extraordinary Bulova vintage dress piece, that can be described as a homage to the Cartier Santos Dumont: The Bulova Longchamp P4.** →Made in Switzerland →1980s Vintage →18k Goldcplated →Original Bulova crocodile strap →Original Bulova buckle →28 x 35 x 4,5mm →Swiss Made ETA Movement →New Battery! **HISTORY** As I mentioned this Bulova pays homage to the famous Santos Dumont, a very important if not THE important wristwatch in horological history, as it's considered to be the first actual wristwatch, invented by Louis Cartier for his friend Alberto Santos Dumont at the beginning of last century. Santos-Dumont had expressed a desire to his friend Louis for a watch that would allow hands-free navigation and flight control during flights. The pocket watches prevalent at the time were simply too cumbersome for this purpose. The aircraft with an engine developed by Alberto Santos-Dumont in 1905 required free hands and a quick glance at the watch. Therefore, it was Louis Cartier himself who developed the first "Pilot's Watch" for his friend from the Aéroclub de France and presented it to Alberto Santos-Dumont as a personal gift. Initially nameless, it would go on to make watch history as the Cartier Santos. **THE WATCH** Rather than being a pure knock-off this Bulova is rather a tasteful homage with its own unique quirks. Pay for instance attention to the hour markers on the dial which are just little applied dots: They basically homage the original screws positioned on the Cartier Santos bezel but on this Bulova they are on the dial instead, while Bulova went with 4 corner screws on their bezel. It's these playful little elements, that differentiate tasteful homages from straight knock-offs! The dial itself is gold coloured with a brilliant stardust grain effect to it. Subtle but charming. It's a unisex watch, here pictured on my 17.5cm wrist. The actual lug width between the lugs seems to be 16mm, but the Bulova watch strap widens as you can see to 18mm which gives this watch a bigger presence on the wrist. So by putting on a straight 16mm strap, you can visually downsize the watch significantly. Although I believe by modern standard a female wrist can also wear the current strap configuration without issues: It's a unisex watch. **CONDITION:** The condition can only be described as excellent. The watch shows very little signs of wear to the case, while the crystal is in excellent unscratched condition. The original Bulova genuine crocodile leather strap is in very good shape, so is the Bulova buckle. The gold plating developed on some places a rich dark red to purple tarnish. The reason for that is the copper mixed in the gold alloy. I think it's not disturbing, it's rather something you can witness on a lot of gold plated watches (for example on vintage Tank Must watches) and consider that the photos showing that are macro shots. In hand this is rather hard to notice and in most angles the plating looks just gold even on those tarnished spots! However it can also be cleaned. The watch received a new battery and works without any issues.
